Curious to know what kind of axle will have posi and rear disc brakes.

I'm assuming some kind of exploder... But I'm curious if doing the disc brakes will require any other changes...

I just swapped in a disc brake axle, from a 95 Explorer. The junkyard I went to had a lot of 8.8s. I could have gotten a 95+ Explorer 8.8 with discs and 4.10s, with a posi, for under $200.

Other areas may have less of a selection. But look for a 95 or later Explorer 8.8 if you want discs. I also found that most of the axles with 4.10s are posi, and the 3.55 and 3.73 axles tend to be open.

Disc brake complete conversions go for $400+ on Ebay. I'm wondering why the hell anyone would do that, when you can get an entire 8.8 axle for $200 with factory discs.

EDIT: As far as other changes, if you have rear ABS you can use the existing master cylinder.

Explorers (95 and up?) had discs and were also available with limited slips.

The tags, a 4.10 7.5 LS would read this on the bottom section.

4SL10 75

8.8 4.10 LS would read.

4SL10 88

Looking into it more I have some questions.

If I had an 8.8 rear end is it difficult to make it a LS?

All axles are difficult to change carriers. Lunchbox lockers are cheap and easy to install and will yield MUCH better off-road results.
