I found a limited slip diff for sale with the axle. The axle tubes are rustier than mine, so would I be able to only swap diffs? Or would I need to swap the whole axle?

My credo
Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Whatever extra rust there happens to be is probably just superficial.. axles can generally sit outside in the elements for.. ever.. and not rust enough to not be usable.

The differential can be swapped if its 28-spline axles and both are 8.8"
Since its a 4WD front and rear differentials MUST have the same ratio, the same ring and pinion ratios, i.e. 3.73 or 4.10
When you pull out any differential it needs to be re-shimmed during installation, so its not a simple in and out job
If you pull out the Limited Slip differential you should replace the clutches

Sanding and painting the "new" axle would be easier, assuming Ratio's Match

Ratios match, just wasn’t sure how much rust matters. Thanks y’all. Hopefully I pick it up this weekend

I wouldn't waste time putting a junk factory limited slip in, any one you find is going to need rebuilt wirh new clutches to work right, and even then they aren't that great. You would be much better off putting a lunchbox locker like a lock right or Powertrax no slip in the axle you have now.
