I think they're much more profitable for the tire manufacturers.BFG is doing the same thing with their new mud tires, they have the big ones available but still don't make much to even fit a 16" rim. Mud tires must be a big hit for the mall wheelers.
Ever notice the HUUUUGGGE price gap between ANY tire for a 15" wheel, and the same dia tire for a 17" (or larger) rim? (even though the tire for the larger rim takes a smaller amount of materials to manufacture it).
Another area where a HUUUGGGE price gap appears... 37" tires vs 35" (any size rim). You don't see even ¼ that amount of price difference between a 33" and 35" tire
But as long as the mall crawlers keep paying those kind of prices, they likely won't be coming down much anytime soon.
