has anybody read the ranger rehash on page 70? i was really excited to see a ranger build until i started reading it. dont get me wrong... if i had the money, but this things got the 5:1 atlas II, tom woods drive lines, the G2 hp 44 with a g2 60 axles, taraflex highsteer kit, pro comp 's 11" travel mx6 with remote resevoirs...... it just kills me there aren't any BUDGET builds anymore. what happened to the home mechanic and do it your selfers. even if i did have the money, id do all the fab and work myself. reading these mags just tells me there are to many pussified people out there that have way to much money and no get it done yourself attitude. it just makes me feel so much better that i am apart of TRS! reading the builds has gave me more insperation than any magazine and the members on this site are very helpful and id just like to say, i had just bought my last magizine and my check is in the mail. THANK YOU Jim Oaks and and all the other do it yourselfers for keeping tradition alive. :icon_cheers:

I see it sorta like computers...there's always a bigger better faster more powerful something out there that is going to cost you your first three children and a few years of hard work...I stopped reading computer magazines years ago...even though I'm tempted to peek now and then to see if anything has changed...

Nice to look at but unless you've got the cash you really have to do it yourself...oh, gosh, does that ever sound like another part of my life...but before I digress...

My Ranger wasn't a budget build until I lost my job and found myself with about $5,000 invested and I still couldn't drive it...then my DD died and I had to get the Ranger on the road...started cutting corners...and found they work just as well for what I need...although most of the serious stuff was premium parts...the body looks like crap...but it runs...so far...lol

So, yeah, thanks to TRS...there is so much win on this site that Jim should buy the Toronto Maple Leafs...

it's just like the local car forum in idaho. Every "build thread" consists of the person taking pictures of their car at the shop getting parts installed. no one does anything themselves haha.

real builders don't get their instructions out of a magazine... magazine builds are for mall crawlers, they want to look fancy by putting thousands and thousands of dollars into it

I have been following that build as well. Not too many Ranger owners who are writers for a great magazine as we know exist...lol. But...if we all had access to a lift and all those neat tools we can all build something great. I get to use a lift once in awhile and it has helped out a lot on a few tires mounts and a few suspension lifts. Some of these magazines take the trucks to have lifts and gears done, motors swaped out and the places do it for the publicity or recognition and this of course leads to sponserships. Nothing wrong with that. I see 4wheelparts does a lot of work for a few magazines. In the articals you can see how something is done and most of us can do our own work to a certain point. When you need help and a buddy can't figure it out you go to a shop.
