My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
The 500 is a hellacious motor, but the only problem with them is the fact that they were designed during emissions years.

The 472 will run better in stock form.

My mom had a 70 Sedan Deville back in the day with a 472. It would smoke the tires untill you laid off the gas.

later,
Dustin

Not many motors runnin around nowadays that isn't EMISSION YEARS!:icon_twisted:

I agree with the stock comment, as I stated above, in stock form they'd be a BEAST in a lil' car/pickup.........

One thing I noticed but didn't point out, the distributor is in the front like a sbf, & HEI would be easy swap for a early 70's or older Cad motor......BUT, I also noticed that they are "front sumped", could be a problem, but I'm sure they make a rear sump conversion.

To do the engine in the bed, you'll have to use a Eldorado transaxle or one out of a Oldsmobile Toranado which would have to be 70's model, as they did away with the BIG V8 motors in them in the mid 70's.

Info from my Practical Engine Swaps book, this was published in the 70's I believe, so it doesn't show 4 cyl or V6's:

no cuz by the time you did all that chopping and cutting to the body mounts and frame it isnt worth attempting. easier to mount the engine tranny in the bed than chopping up the whole body and body mounts to fit the caddy frame.

i know. my dad just doesnt understand. and also dont forget, the junkyard doesnt have any of what you need to finish something. then you put off fixing it and the mice start living in the cowl and piss when they hear the engine making it smell inside and then you get pissed and then you spray them with wd40........i really hope they made it out. i dont want rancid mice in the damn cowl...

just a rediculous question, are there any v8 fwd vehicles in existance besides taurus sho w/ v8? one that could possibly be fitted w/ a larger engine? just curious...
Impala SS's are available fwd with the 5.3.

I would rather have AWD...

awd is great unless your racing. ive used awd when i was drifting and it was awesome w/ the proper suspension and computer calibration for traction control, otherwise your just crawling over stuff w/ bitchy steering. the rwd mount (volkswagen beetle!!!) type thing is kind of kewl, hit the gas w/ enuff power and slide everywhere, just have to consider you have no weight on the front and steering is funny, kind of like a forklift pivoting but w/ the front wheels instead.

"drifting" isnt "racing"

real racers dont like their tires to loose static friction on the roads surface. all that does it bleed off speed and burn up tires. this isnt the fast and the furious. AWD will own FWD or RWD in any situation on any day (streight line accel, cornering, decel, inverted flight, and so on).
