I want to put on a 1990 cast aluminum clutch slave to replace the plastic one on a 1993 2.3. Plastic one is about 4 months old & its leaking! Trans is a M5OD.
The 1990 2.9 slave is a new spare one I have laying around. What fluid line would be the
right one to use? (color code on quick connect)

too my knowledge all the slave connections are the same regardless of year on the M5OD. You should be good to go with the 93 line. IIRC the 90 master cyl is different (line comes out 90* different from 93) so you probably cant use the 90 line.

The master change might be earlier though. I know we ran into issues at the master end trying to use a 93 line/slave and a late 80s master.

The masters (regarding fluid movement) changed in 93. I recently put a M50D from a '96 in my '84. I used an '84 master since it mounted up to the firewall perfectly and a '92 slave. In '93 the slave connections on the M50D's changed (black to gold IIRC) and that's how you can figure out what will work with what. If the slave has a black connector, it will work with '92 and older master. Gold connector means '93 and newer master.

OK, I was looking at my stash of used parts & found a lime green connector on a cast
aluminum slave (year?). In comparing it with the gold connecter (93) looks the same in length & is tapered on the inside pass the stainless prongs. Think I can use lime green connecter with 93 fluid line. Because it's off of a cast aluminum slave it is mounted the same as the older pre92 connectors.

As far as the line connects fine you are good. Just make sure to not mix up the masters and slaves. You will run into issues then.

Update: Looks like I can just swap the 93 gold connecter on to the pre 92 slave.
But what I'm reading is I cannot use the 93 master with the 90 slave?:icon_confused:

All the masters are the same bore until you get into the mid 2000s and get the reduced effort style master (smaller bore more pedal travel). We are using an 80s master on a 95-97 slave in the B2.

'93-up master is bigger bore

The connector changed to Gold for 1993

The 1988-92 master might not fully cycle the slave.
The 1993 master with an early slave tends to cause firewall
cracks where the master cyl mounts
