Anyone have a index plate for a 4.2l v-6 97-03 manual. The Ford Racing plate I ordered will not work and I can't find one anywhere. I'm stalled until I can locate one of these. Ford wants about $90 for one and I can't get ahold of the guy I bought the Trans from. Any help would be appreciated.

FRPP M-7007-B is for apps like the Fox Mustang that uses a 157T flywheel and T5. The 302/M5OD-R2 combo needs a 164T flywheel and index plate.

I used a one-piece plate from an earlier car 302 w/ 164T flywheel like this. It has exactly the same pattern as the 4.2L where it matters for the starter, engine/trans bolts and alignment pins. I only had to add 2 holes (non-precision locations) at the bottom of the plate to match up to a 2003 M5OD-R2.

To widen a junkyard search, you should also be able to use a plate from a 96-back F-series with a 300/302 and M5OD-R2.

Heads up: be sure to get a starter from a 164T manual truck. The nose on the similar-appearing starter from a 164T automatic truck is the wrong length. For searching purposes, you can look for a starter compatible with a 96 5.0L manual F150. Same source for the 164T flywheel IF your engine has 50 oz-in imbalance as used in later model 5.0s.
