While recently adding oil to my truck in a Canadian Tire Parking lot, I noticed this leak in my passenger side manifold on the rear cylinder. I am actually somewhat happy for this leak, because I have been hearing a "ticking" for quite a while and though that it was my heads, being a high mileage truck. I had looked for leaks before, but it was new enough that there was no black soot and so I missed it.

I want to avoid pulling the manifold at all costs. It looks pretty rusty, and I don't have any means of applying much heat to it to break the rust. I really don't want to break any of the studs. Is there a way I can plug this small leak from the outside? I was thinking maybe trying some RTV Ultra Copper?

What do you all think?

Try some muffler putty. It will work for a few weeks before needing to apply more. I suggest pulling it and fixing the leak or just leave it how it is.

Ok here is what I did. Bought some muffler putty kinda stuff from the parts store, says its good for 1000 degreees C and is recommended for exhaust manifolds. I pretty much completely covered all the sides around where the manifold and head meet. Now its a waiting game I suppose to see how long it'll last.

Well its been a couple weeks, and most of the muffler putty has blown off from the area where the leak was. :annoyed:

Looks like I'll need to take the manifold off and put a gasket in there. Whats the best way to get the studs to break loose without breaking them off? And when one does break, how would I go about fixing it?

Drive it around first to get the bolts hot. They'll come right out.
