hey since i just and starting to get some work done on the ranger again i thought id start a build thread
so back in sept 2011 my old 1990 ranger kicked the bucket (tranny) and since it was starting to have weekly problems i decided not to put anymore money into it. kind of wish i kept it though...
well after a week or two with out a truck i found this work truck.
it was a 1997 ext cab 4l 4x4 and was red lol. its was in meh condition but ran good and was a good price to. only pic stock

it stayed stock for about a week till i started swapping things over. first lights and cb. then tires (31s) and lift (4" rough country).
tires no lift

lift and tires

31s to 33s

then i painted fenders and bumpers (i had some over spray  )

put on power mirrors (still have to do the wiring)
before

after

then i picked up some bumpers. the front went on right away but the back sat for about 2/3 months

and within the last 2 weeks i did my chevy leaf swap and put on my rear bumper. looks like a bush truck now....

still on my list is
6" superlift coils
front locker
rock sliders
and some other stuff lol

looks like a sas is in my future :yahoo:
i just picked up a fw dana 44 with 3.55 gears and a fw 8.8 with 3.55

so the plan is to start gathering parts and start building the axles after xmas. hopefully santa brings me some gears n lockers lol

so build plan
fw axles
hoping to get 6" of lift in the front
ext radius arms
gears- 4.88 or 5.13 not sure yet
lockers- hoping a lockrite or detriot rear and a arb or eletric front
and tires still not sure. it could be 35s 36s or even 37s. i wont know till i figure out what gears and how much lift i get.

let the part gathering begin

so no progress of any type ugh...

but plans have been thought out more
gears are going to be 4.88
ill be going for a Detroit up front
nothing in the rear for now unless something comes up.
im going to use 3.5 eb coils so ill have around 6" up front (pretty close to the rear height)
upper coil buckets im gonna buy jd ones (not a 100% sure yet)
steering has still not been thought though...

as for the truck its been sitting  has a power drain some where and I put a hole in my dana 35 so ill be replacing that this weekend hopefully. also ill be throwing in some coil spacers up front to level it out. I need to go wheeling :icon_hornsup:

well i got the 9 inch axle taken apart yesterday. ugh what a pain in the ass to get the shafts out. The previous owner had re-drilled the shafts to chevy/toyota bolt pattern. Sooooo Im now looking for new shafts.

the 9 inch came with a yukon locker and 5.14 gears. So no re-gearing for me :headbang:

so this weekend i hopefully get new shafts put in and the rear axle mounted. Depends on how motivated I am. And if im hungover at all.... Its a long weekend after all

Well small update time
I found a hole in the housing soooo... Instead of going out and buying new shafts and bearings for my current 9" axle, I bought Isaacs old 9" axle, Also some other parts... Go up for a axle end up with a skid full of parts :headbang: Thanks man
So after my week of vacation I came home to a nice present

Well it turns out that some how one of the wheel studs got bent so I have to go get some.

Primed axle

Painted

And half assembled

Thats it for now. I have a race on Saturday so i probs wont make any progress this weekend ugh

another update time
so this week I have been getting some stuff done because I need to get it ready for a camping/wheeling trip at the end of October. So with week I have got the rear axle mounted, the front crossmember cut so the trac bar doesnt hit and my coil retainers in.
So that means I got to move the truck out of the shop and test the flex on it.
cutting the crossmember

moving out of the shop to test the flex and if anything hits

Im pretty sure it could go farther but I gotta trim the fenders and bumpers first

front stuffed

Rear stuffed

Then i dropped it and went to the other side. I had some thing hitting... I have to trim the crossmember again and the trans crossmember. Ill have to build another one down the road

So this week ill hopefully trim the fenders and bumpers, get brake lines done, drive shafts, shock mounts, break in front gears, and get some dom tubing for the steering
