I have an r8 rear axel. Ls 4.56 gears 28 spline 8.8.
After some research I have found that the explorer axels didn't come with 4.56 gears.... So basically I would have to swap the front gears to be compatible with the new explorer axle.... I really don't wanna do that. So what I'm thinking is gettin another r8 axle out of a 99 and newer ranger which has the 31 spline and welding the Tubes then fabbing up a sexy truss. What I'm wondering is if anyone else has found themselves in this situation and if its worth doin the work for the explorer axle to have the bigger tubes...

You don't have factory 4.56 gears.....They just do not exist.

Wish they had factory 4.56. If they did every member on this site would run that ratio.

They do from what the chart says... Anyways this post is kinda irrelevant now as I will just throw an explorer axel in it and throw a truss on it anyways :p

My credo
If you're not making mistakes, you're not learning.
Yes, there's a code for it, but that doesn't mean it was ever used. I'm starting to get that impression for my 6-tooth speedometer drive gear that I need when I put my 4.56 gears in (originally 3.73 as well). There's a part number for it, but I just get weird looks and shrugged shoulders when I ask about one.

I couldn't find it after an admittedly quick search, but there was a whole article, complete with pictures of Ford brochure's about features for BII's that no-one has ever found or seen either.
