My 2001 Mazda B3000 4x4 Truck won't start. I have replaced the relay and for a couple of days it would start and run, so I figured a bad relay and was happy. But then it went back to not starting ( and I could not hear the fuel pump kick in when turning the key to on)... Replaced the relay again, but still no start and no fuel pump sound with key on.
Is it possible that the anti-theft system can be denying power to the relay or pump itself ? ( The theft light blinks about every 5 seconds with all both doors shut and key out of ignition).
I'd rather not go to the trouble of lifting the bed including the camper if it's not the fuel pump. (I'm 77yrs now).
The wipers also don't work with key on . (The truck will turn over, so the starter is fine but not getting fuel.)
Does anyone have a wiring diagram that shows all the wiring for this truck?
Or any suggestions on how to narrow this down some.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Bob

Welcome to TRS :)

The THEFT Light would Flash Rapidly with key on if it was a PATS(passive anti-theft system) issue, it should just go off and stay off once key is on
Only slow flashes when key is off and doors closed to warm Thieves it has an active anti-theft system
Yes, PATS disables starter relay and fuel pump, AND the big one is, it disables Fuel Injectors

Does the CEL(check engine light) come on with Key On, if so it means the Computer(PCM) has booted up, and it runs the fuel pump
If no CEL then no start, and no starter motor because PCM also grounds the starter relay

There is a PCM relay in the engine fuse box(turns on PCM), it could be your engine fuse box has some corrosion in the relay contacts if replacing Starter Relay got it working again
Pull out relays and have a look at the contacts

And it could be starter motor has just died, relay wasn't the issue, just a coincidence
But the fuel pump should still run for 2 seconds each time key is turned on

If CEL comes on with key on then check fuel pump relay in engine fuse box, if its not coming on
Also pull up and push down each fuse in that fuse box to clean their terminals

H ow can I test to determine if the ignition switch is causing this (other than replacing it) ?

Pull out Fuse 24 in cab fuse box, use a test light or volt meter to see if that fuse slot has 12v with key turned to START
If so ignition switch is OK

How can I disable the PATS system, to see if something there is causing my problems ?

Seriously ??
The PATS can not be bypassed or disabled by the owner ?

It's 22yrs old now, what idiot would want to steal it?

I agree it's pretty silly that it's not easily disabled. But I guess that's kind of the point.

I know if you take the truck to an engine tuner they can disable it, no idea what the cost would be. Potentially the dealer could as well, but you'd have to call and ask.

CarThieves are generally Desperate\Drugged Idiots or just stupid Teenagers looking for a thrill trashing someone elses property,
so yep any vehicle in sight is a potential target.

You insert the correct PATS key and turn it on, if THEFT light goes off, you have successfully Bypassed PATS, good work :)

That is the ONLY way, even if it was in a Ford Shop in Detroit with the Late Henry Ford insisting on starting it

So, if the starter turns the engine over, then PATS is functioning properly and the PATS system is OK ??

Yes, and the THEFT light will go off, if it flashes then PATS has disabled fuel injectors
Some of the 1998-2000 PATS modules did not disable starter motor, but all 2001 and up did
1998 PATS was pay extra option in Rangers
