I have a 1996 ranger 4.0 4x4 auto super cab just installed a new transmission updated with a stall converter never giving a thought that I would have to change the baseline torque converter parameters now I am getting a code for incorrect converter speed any way to flash or fool pcm ? Thanks

What torque converter model number did you put in?
All torque converters have a "stall speed" its the RPM range where they start to lock, usually around 2,000rpm for most engines, 4.0l OHV makes best torque at 2,500rpm so that would be about right for this engine

What are the symptoms while driving?

What is the EXACT code?

There is no "converter speed" sensor or code

And there would be no reason to flash or fool a PCM about a torque converter

There is a TSS(Input/Turbine Speed Sensor), this is an internal sensor that has a separate plug inside the pan, maybe it got unplugged?

Sorry to get back to you at a day later I am getting code P0741 accompanied by converter slip above expected with my code scanner ,everything in the pan is plugged in as they screwed up the wiring to the transmission coolant temperature switch that was built into the harness I had to replace that .it is supposedly a stage two transmission with a 2100 stall speed converter With the shift improver kit and extra clutches it shifts hard which is fine but occasionally the Od light Will flash and then the shifts become very very harsh And then that’s when I get the PO 741 code and again my code scanner says converter slip above expected

I had the transmission built to stage two and a stall converter because I plow with the truck in the winter and I like to make small things to do big work lol

I may be incorrect about the stall speed as well as for the place I bought it from isn’t The place I got it from ended up coming out of transmission depot which I am seeing now there’s a lot of bad reviews I am going to call them in the morning and see what stall converter they sent me

P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off

Not a torque converter issue, a TCC solenoid issue

Unplug the 16 pin connector
Use OHM meter between pin 1 and 5 should see 9 to 16 OHMs, as said in image
If out of range then solenoid is either its unplugged or bad

If in range then could be bad seal on the TCC valve inside valve body
TCC system uses a pulsed ground to gradually lock torque converter, so not abrupt on/off

P0741 means the Engine RPMs and Input shaft RPMs are not the same after TCC is applied, so torque converter is not locking up
And it could be a torque converter issue, simply a bad part, not because it has a different internal stall speed
