ok... so i am gonna be doing a rebuild on my 3.0l in my 98 ranger... my questions is my engine was swaped in from the previous owner (hack job) and i have no clue as to which year the motor is, so are the bolts interchangeable or do i have to pull it all apart to see if i have the longer ones or the shorter one's.

Your correct, you need to know which length bolts you need, so unfortunately in your case, unless you can chase some numbers on the block to get a mfg year your going to have to pull a head bolt & measure, at least all the head bolts in each kit are the same length, so you only need to pull 1 bolt to get the correct length. I dont think they interchange, & you would not want to use the shorter bolts & not get sufficient torque on the head. Longer bolts are approx 5" long & the shorter version is around 3-7/8" long.
