I have an 07 Ranger manual and about half the time I have a hard time getting the shifter into gear. Usually it is first and reverse and usually it is when I start it up in the morning but recently I have had it get jammed going into all the gears, all one at a time and all at different times. I always make sure my clutch is all the way down and I try backing the shifter out and wiggling it in neutral a bit then trying again. This never works and I end up having to force it into the gear I need.

Any idea whats wrong?

sounds like either the slave or clutch master is taking a dive most likely the slave as this is a common ranger issue

2007 isn't that old, has the tranny fluid been replaced with gear oil instead of ATF?
Does the shifter have a lot of play in it?
Other than that, the clutch not fully disengaging is a good thing to check as well.

with the truck off does the truck shift into the gears ok. If so then chances are it the slave or Master Cylinder.

There is no complaint of any whine in the gears.....he has a weak or worn out slave cylinder.

Not necessarily. Synthetic ATFs can do this too.

Switch back to Merc and see what happens.
