I'm currently have only one working horn. It sure is a pitiful sound. Does anyone have first hand experience on good sounding horns or ones to avoid? I don't want an air horn, but I want something with a little more prescence than a smart car tooter.

Sorry, nothing better than air horns. Not expensive either.

Go to the junkyard and look for an 80s BMW. Those suckers made some noise, and not cheap sounding either. They sound like a one ton truck

I kinda want to avoid air horns. I've seen some marine electric trumpet horns that sound good on the youtube. I'll have to see how these BMW horns sound too.

My kids wanted to swap their horns on their focus st and Mazda to the BMW horns because they said their 86 and 87 325 horns were so loud

Dixie air horn kit from j.c. whitney!, and I have a secondary dual trumpet air horn kit that came from harbor freight. Oddly enough the stock horn quit working, not that it ever got used. lol

Find the two OEM (Denso) horns from a 2016 or later Toyota Tacoma pickup, then mount them so that they have a straight shot forward through the grill (easy to do with their single-hole mounting tab, just bolt them straight to the metal part of the rad support).
They are LOUD!! (and the sound is that of your typical dual-note car horns, not the older tinny metal Toy buzzers).

There may be others out there just as good too, but later Taco horns I know won't disappoint.

I swapped a Mercedes (left) trumpet horn for the stock horn on my Nissan D21. Went from "beep beep" to a dying goose squawk. I love it and people hear my horn now.

I’m surprised there’s not more of a niche horn hobby out there. Even $500 yacht horns are a toss up. I just can’t find any opinions. There’s entire genealogies of old steam whistles, but it didn’t transfer over to electric I guess.

I’ve heard some really good sounding maritime air horns I’d like to get my hands on. They have a soft, sorrowful “mwhoooo” sound instead of a train “blat” sound. I bet there’s a reason for that though. They’re honking at things miles away instead of the guy right in front of their bumper.

I can tell you NOT to buy the Harbor Freight OOGA horn, not only did it sound not right, it died after a short time. The Wolo horn 100 watt speaker on Northern Too,s, cost 1/2 as much on Amazon.

I could tell you to google "cattle call siren", but, I can just give you a link to someone that sells good ones:

Go watch some YT videos for the Pierce sirens, from the same people that make the winches.

"Pierce Cattle Siren PCH324"

They have a presence !

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

What year and model of Mercedes? My 85 had a pittliful thing that sounded like the roadrunner.

My new motorcycle had the same stupid sound as the Mercedes. I ordered a horn for the bike that is supposed to be twice as loud. I'm not sure it really is. It sounds more like a normal car horn, though, so I call it a slight improvement. Unfortunately, the one or two times I have needed a horn on the bike, my hands were too busy with clutch, brakes and steering to really put my thumb on the horn button. I need the horn from the Titanic and make it voice activated. So every time I yell "Oh ****!" In my helmet The horn sounds.

thats my problem. when something negative is going on, i am not thinking of hitting the horn. i am trying to avoid an accident and going to the hospital. my wife always gets mad and says you should have honked. it happened saturday morning and she was playing on her phone. by the time she freaked out and looked up from her phone, i had already avoided snapping a four door wrangler in half that pulled out in front of us trying to cross three lanes when we had a green light forever so we were traveling at 50mph down the feeder lane. stupid kid was playing on his phone, like they always are

Snagged a pair of Marinco electric trumpets out of the dent bin at a boat shop. They sound pretty good I guess. Not sure what I’m expecting, but they don’t knock off my socks.

I must confess this is on my Ram. I posted this here cause none of the Ram forums are as active as TRS.
