Messing around with the Ranger a bit. Putting it to work. Jeeps cant do that

Ordered some tube for sliders and misc things. Its just hot rolled 1.5 OD x .120 wall. Not DOM

Took the truck for a little spin. It gets a lot of attention...

I also made a Simple and functional rear bumper. I was going to make a tube one, but i need some weight out back so i made it out of some heavy 4" Channel i had laying around

^^ I went wheelin' last weekend. I will have to post of pictures of that later. It was a blast! Only blew one hub and I blew a cap off of a vacuum line on the intake making me idle at 2100 rpms

Here is a preview. I meant to take it easy but the Ranger was able to do a LOT more than I thought it would be able to do.

Josh tried, but his longer wheelbase killed him

First Real Wheelin Trip

My buddy and I both took our rigs out for the first time to our local spot, Jeepskool.com

Specs on his truck
1991 GMC 1500HD, 350 TBI, built 700R4, NP205/208 Doubler (i think), 38s (Lookin for 40s)
Front:
4 Link with custom coil overs
Ford King Pin Dana 60, Spool, 5.13s
Rear:
Leafs
02 Duramax AAM 11.5, Stock L/S, 5.13s
He has a lot more money in his that i have in mine haha.

Wheelin Pics. Most are of him since I led and I own the camera and the wife didnt go on this trip.
Neither one of us got stuck. I ended up cutting the back of my exhaust off and I lost a vacuum cap at one point.

I just need to figure out how to get my front to flex. They are only 180# springs. It should flex like crazy. I think its the fact that my rear is SUPER Soft

Well, i havn't been on here in a while. I havent touched the Ranger since my last trip haha and I plan on going to Haspin acres (www.haspinacres.com) tomorrow. Might have to do some tear down tonight.

I also sold my last DD. The Focus was just starting to need work. I put 40k miles on it in 17 months so it did what i needed it to do. So I sold it to someone that wants to fix it and i got a 1998 4cyl 2wd Ranger. Much more function for me than a Focus. My goal is to get 28-29mpgs out of it. If i cant get at least 27mpg, i will have to find another car :(

I got the 98 pretty cheap. The guy needed it gone that night but it does need some things since I live in the rust belt. It needs all 4 ball joints, at least 2 tires and the rear leaf hangers and shackles. No big deal. I can do all that no problem and stay under my $1800 DD budget. Anymore than that, and the Rate of Return is not good enough to keep it.

Day One

It was still a DD to this guy so I went to drive it the 30miles home before i tore into it. I was planning on doing the timing belt first because it didnt look good for one and at 173k miles, who knows when it was changed last. Well, it broke on the way home haha. So i towed her home and after a weekend of work she rides smooth as glass

Oh yeah. Its a fun place. Very organized as well.
They have mud too, but i try to stay near the rocks haha

06RangerXLT: awesome finds man. i wish i could find parts like you do!
After reading some of your build thread, you do well too. But you buy and sell (as in parts). I just buy haha

Thanks for the complement. I am not going to make it to November since my cousin is getting married that saturday. I am shooting for December though. As long as its not raining. Cold and snow is fine, but i try to skip out on the rain haha.

You said you need to get the front to flex more? Looking at some of your pics, how long are your front shocks? They look a little short. That might be limiting it. ?

Thats what i thought. So i took them off and drove one side up on the deckover trailer. No difference. I think my rear is too soft so my front doesnt do any work. The energy takes the path of less resistance. I am running super flexy EB coils from BroncoGraveyard up front too, so those should be plenty soft enough.
Next i want to try and block my rear springs so they cant travel. Like a sled pullin' truck. Then go up the trailer and see what the front does.

Yeah, its a good time. There are rules which makes it nice. Its much different than Yankee lol.
Many of the trails are set up for 31s and 33s. You will be fine

Maybe the coils are keeping the front axle from dropping limiting the flex. I have mine loose at the top and only fixed to the axle so the coil can unload like this

Plus I think the superflex from the graveyard are a 300 ppi? I am using xj coils at 185 ppi.

yea, i do that a bit. around here its easy to make money buying and selling parts. its paid for the rims and tires on my truck and the lift.

unfortunatly im not in a 2wd pre runner enviorment, so everything i have to buy new. get $$$$ espensive

That is not a bad idea. I might just do that. Thanks for the pic.
The stock EBs are about 300ppi. The superflex ones are 190ppi. At least the ones i got are. The are certainly soft. Which is why i dont know why they wont move. Maybe my radius arm bushings are holding it back?
