There is no evidence of that. I think some Mo-Ron mashed it before getting it threaded into the block.

I would LOVE to do a 4.0 swap... and I might do that in the future... if not a 302. I am also working on building a shop to work in so I don't have to do all of this in the grass... It really sucks to do this with no floor or shade.

So I am shopping headers for my 86. I found some listed that fit 88-90 years, but none for the 86... This was also the breakpoint year for the EGR valve. Long story short, those headers don't have any way to connect the EGR valve that my bronco has...

"Ideers"?

Find a cheap explorer on Craigslist and drop the 4.0 in your truck. It'll be cheaper than rebuilding a 2.9 and you'll love the outcome.

I am actually planning on building a 302 to go in the B2. Meantime I am just going to get this one running. If I am going to go through all of the hassle of fabbing in a new motor I am going to make it worth my while! ;) I am not rebuilding this one. Just replacing the heads. The rest of the engine seems to be fine, so it should hold until I get the 302 done.

Started de-greasing the engine today... There actually IS an engine block under all of that gack. 4 cans of Easy Off oven cleaner and I can see metal! I stripped, painted and baked the valve covers today. This is coming together nicely. perhaps the intake will get some attention this weekend. The picture below is sort of crappy... I took it with my phone.

Ok... During the commercial breaks from my Saturday shows, I finished the upper intake. The inside of this thing was BLACK and Lumpy/Crusty. It took me hours to clean it yesterday. Here it is with my already-finished valve covers.

As you can see, this isn't a "back to factory" look. ;)

I ordered my rebuilt heads today. they should be here on Thursday. I am excited to get this back together. I haven't been able to give it a proper test drive and I am getting antsy!

the 4.0 swap is more efficient in my opinion... easier. drops on the same motor mounts in my case.. .it was super easy and worth it! i wouldn't do a 302 swap on a b2...

maybe a street ranger..

I may consider that later on. What's the difference in HP between the 4.0 and the 2.9?

The front end of my B2 rises a bit when I get on it. I'm just runnin 30's and I can easily spin the tires. The 4.0 is awesome, esp with the M5od behind it.

for headers you are going to want to find a 88+ 2.9 computer and grab that and the throttle body and egr block off plate they have, and suddenly your 2.9 will come to life
