So it has been many a year that i have wanted to cut the top off the old BII and now that i bought a house with a shop i can finally do it. The plan was to chop the roof only but as i got working on the project i also decided i would strip the interior, relocate the ECM, remove the various cancerous tumors on the truck, get new seats, build a custom center console and so on and so on....

My original chop plan involved welding a ranger extended cab on to the remainder of the truck but after sitting and staring at the truck another idea came to mind....

Here is the progress so far...

Windows removed and interior gutted...

First section of roof cut and marks for cutting rear pillars...

The bumper i have had since i bought the truck in 2002....I have been razzed manytimes for this one...it will finally be replaced...but did serve me well...

Rear section removed...

An area of cancer i was unaware of....

What she will look like when i re-attach the rear section...

So thats where it sits as of now. I've been cleaning a lot of rust up but i am at the point where i canstart patching holes, weld in new rad support and then get back to the chop top that all started it... Once the roof section is back on i'm gonna talk to a glass shop and see if its possible to cut the original windows and put them back on the truck....

Love that design!

Great idea and keep posting progress.

I'm especially wondering if that will significantly lessen the body flex that plagues chopped BIIs.

I like that... Check the late 80s early 90s Nissan trucks, they have a small side window that goes up over the top edge of the roof too... Don't know how close in contours it would be though.

Checked his profile, last activity was in April 2010 and this is one of his newer posts.

We may never know the fate of this cool idea. :(
