Hi all,

I bought a 2010 Ranger with the 2.3 for a couple reasons,

1) the 2.3 has a good long retutation

2) my brother in law had a 4.0 in his expedition that put more mileage up and down on the rack then on the road.

That being said I have intentions down the road doing a bunch of mods to it.

Does anyone know if the older 2.3 turbo setup is compatible with this motor?

Is the new motor just the latest version or is it a whole new animal?

I understand the differences with the original turbos and non turbos, so Im hoping eventually could pick up a turbo short block, bolt on my new DOHC head with new defined cams, and then the intake, exhaust and turbo and have a nice street pick up.

Looking forward to any constructive ideas....

Cheers,
Ken J

to my understanding their a whole new animal... BUT their no reason you could take a 2.3 out of a Mazda SPEED 3 or 6 and bolt it in their... i have been wanting to try it for a long time but i cant blow the money on a 2010 but would love to see it done...

Look at a lima 2.3 and the duratec 2.3, your question will answer itself.

Expeditions never came with 4.0s. You mean Explorer?

The new 2.3 is entirely different from the old 2.3. Making a turbo work would involve lots of custom work.

What about bolt patterns for exhaust and intake? Do they match up?

The engines are entirely different. Nothing will interchange, except for maybe the oil filter, and something random like the valve cover bolts or something. You might as well be trying to bolt a small block Chevy manifold up to a Ford 302. I am not trying to be harsh or anything, just trying to clear things up.

Mazdaspeed 3 parts might work, or there might be parts for turbo kits for the Duratech Focus that could be used.
