installing a lock right in my Dana 35 ( I hope). Got the unit out of the truck and on the bench, and after starring at it for an hour and searching for about 3 hours….. I can’t get the carrier assembly out of the housing . The ring gear ( OEM 4:10) is too fat to let the center pin slide out. I unbolted the ring gear in hope I could slide it over, but nope, it hits the pinion gear. :(

the hang up is the clip on the stub axle , I can’t get he clip out unless I remove the center pin. I can’t remove the center pin due to the fat ring gear. I know there must be an answer that will embarrass me for not thinking of it , but I’m ok with that🙄

thanks for ideas !!

the Dana 35 SLA doesn't use traditional C clips to to retain the axle shafts in the differential. it has small C rings that stay on the shaft, and expand to capture the side gears.
to remove just pull on the axle shaft, or pull harder. that compresses the ring and the shaft comes out.
maybe get a screwdriver or wedge in next to the pin to force the shaft outward.
the axle housing should be spread for diff removal, but no more than .015" according to my manual.
even then the diff will not come out easily.

Thank you! I couldn’t find that information anywhere on the web. I went out to the garage just now and tapped the axle with a punch and it came right out.
