Still looking for a Crankshaft for my engine rebuild. Does anyone know if the 2.3 crank in the 02-11 Duratec engine was used in any other Ford models? Can't find a good B2300 engine around here either.

Why not just have it welded and re-ground?

No one out here is willing to do that. The damage was so severe it probably is bent also. The #1 journal was ground down 1/8" in the second engine I bought. Just unlucky with crankshafts.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Advance has reman cranks for 250$ according to their website. Crankshaft rebuilders is the company.

Yep, found that list and a couple of other models with the 2.3 are in wrecking yards. The crank is not easily found for this engine. I have a choice, a 600 mile drive for a running 2.3 from a rollover or pulling pans off of various models in wrecking yards. Not fun.

Autozone says they have the same kit as well.. crankshaft rebuilders #11710.

It sucks that no one is willing to just weld&grind it for you locally.. it's not like it's rocket science.

Yep, i've called every major after market business in the books, even discontinued parts companies, that crankshaft is not available. Even the remanufactured engine companies post ads for this engine and when calling they just don't have them. I'm considering the auto version for the Escape, Focus, Fusion Mariner and Milan but I'm told all those had a geared balancer ring on the crank. Not sure I want to go there.

Hmm.

I bet there's an aftermarket forged crank in stock somewhere lol

Yep researched that too. Starting to research the 2.5 duratec with 2.3 head, i "think" it'll bolt onto the auto trans in the 05. Some slight mods to the 2.5 block

I have a 2010 2.5 on an engine stand in the basement, and my well used 2005 2.3 on a stand too. I'm not sure about block mods, I'm listening.

the 2.5 head has bigger intake ports and bolt pattern, so an adapter is needed to mate 2.3 intake to it, ask the Mazada guys about it.
that's why you would put the 2.3 head on. That and get rid of the cam phasers.
there are no Rwd 2.5 intake manifolds. unless you use the Brazilian intake and fabricate a throttle body/IAC mount.

the geared balancer unit is self contained, and oil fed. the issue is that it makes the oil pan deeper.
that would be a big problem on a 4x4, not so much on a 2wd.
the balancer unit can be removed, the oil feed needs plugged. then a 2.3 pan can be installed.

Thanks, I saw a post on a 2.3 intake on the 2.5 block in my feed. Looked simple. Didn't address the intake change though. The removal of the balancer and the oil feed hole plug looked simple enough. He stated the gear wheel didn't affect the engine balance at all. I nixed the idea of the 12 hour drive for the running 2.3. Just didn't want to burn 700 bucks on the chance I'd get a good crank or used engine out of it.

the balancer is actually a counter balancer to smooth out the engine vibrations, so yes, the crank is unaffected by removing it.
