Hello guys and gals, I am Aaron. I recently bought my 4th ranger,1993 5 speed with 2.3L ... this one being for my wife. Got it for $400 bucks. Owner stated the problem has been going on for over a year and a half now and can not figure it out. So I bought and inherited the issue.

Truck will idle all day long and all night long with zero issues. Upon getting a new battery, got her fired up and noticed that there were no lights illuminated. took the dash apart and replaced all 6 bulbs in dash, noticed the CEL was on. Went to the parts house and obtained a Innova 3145 code reader for obd1 and it spit out codes 223/224. Spent days researching these codes and ultimately came up with the ICM. Replaced the ICM last night and CEL went away but the problem persisted. Will drive for about a block then will die 5 times in 2 blocks. Will also start right back up with no hesitations.

Previous to the ICM, I found the ECT in its assembly completely bypassed cause the tube was completely rotted out. Went to the hardware store and made me a new one for about 25 bucks (Ford wants 65+ tax) Also replaced the sensor itself. No change. The previous owner replaced the Fuel Pump, Fuel filter and Fuel pressure regulator.

Stumped on what it could be. I tried re-running the codes and everything that pulls up was from memory, not new codes.

Ok, dumb thought that I've ran into and would be easy to try, my symptoms were different as mine would stall randomly once then run just fine, actually ended up in me rolling the truck as it picked the WORST place to stall one time...

The 3 screws that mount the ignition module need to be grounded or at least one of them (I don't remember which has visible copper under the screw head, it's been over a decade...), if the intake manifold is corroded I would just add a ground wire with a ring terminal under one bolt and run that to somewhere easy like the ground bolt by the wiper motor...

Other than that the only thing that comes to mind is a capacitor in the ECM could have found it's useful life which happens at that age sometimes...
