It depends on your sources and what kind of deals you can find. Since you are in Cali, your best bet is to find a 95 or 96 explorer, anything later and you will be needing the dash harness and steering column in excess of the engine, engine harness and computer

There were no '95' 5.0 Explorers. Do not try and use any 5.0 out an Explorer into the early, pre '98' Ranger, unless you really like a wiring chalange. Stick with the common Mustang computer, wiring and ignition system.

As far as the cost of the conversion all depends on what you have to start with (4.0 with the 8.8 rear and good radiator)? How fast/much power you want? Price from $800-10,000. Average is probably around $2500 for all the little things. As said above, depends on what kind of deals you can find. The Explorer is a good motor to start with but convert back.

I have about $1100 bucks in mine counting the purchase price of the truck. I still have to get a radiator and motor mounts.

As the sayin goes: SPEED COST MONEY, HOW FAST YA WANTA GO?

If your a scrounger like me, then it'll be cheaper than somebody like my Son that thinks his has to be ALL NEW.........I've probably got around a grand in my green 94, while the Son has $2700+ in his 93 just for comparison.

To each his own, so whatever floats your boat Dude!

In 93 when I did the 5.0L/88 Ranger (I know 1st gen) swap the whole package L&L Adpaters, '93 Stang Engine/harness and TCI C4 Trans ran me approximately $3000.

No way do I plan to add up my receipts, but I'd guess $3500-$5000 for my stock 5.0 HO EFI.
Very close to $5000...
Your results may vary.
