I have a 98 Ranger that is 2wd, manual, 3.0. It has started to squeak/chirp when moving. The sound is directly related to road speed (not RPM), it only appears when the truck is in gear (disappears when I push the clutch in), and I don't seem to hear the sound when reversing. I was wondering if anyone has run into this before and if they found the culprit.

Could be the throw out bearing since it stops when the clutch is disengaged.

Start with the easy and cheapest thing first. Drop the driveshaft and move the u-joints around. If they are stiff or notchy, that may be your problem or it may just be A problem. Don’t throw a bunch of parts at it all at once or you’ll never know what fixed it and you may have spent more money than you needed to.
