like the title says, the tire chain broke and took half the truck's paint with it.

for reference, what brand and type of chain was it?

was it a actual chain, or cable? where from? did it have an elastic tensioning ring on the outside edge

I assure you they were properly attached.


The problem was they were "emergency chains" that only cover part of the tire and strap through the hole in the rim via a heavy fabric strap like those found on tow straps. a great idea in theory but I didn't pay attention to how thin the rims on that truck were. The metal on the wheel actually cut through the strap. I'll post a pic of the chain type when I get home.

that's why my only pair of "tire chains" consist of a front axle, driveshaft and t-case
