CARNAGE PICS! What happens when a tire chain breaks.

like the title says, the tire chain broke and took half the truck's paint with it.

for reference, what brand and type of chain was it?

was it a actual chain, or cable? where from? did it have an elastic tensioning ring on the outside edge

Sucks, but a lot of people dont know how to properly use tire chains.

that was my thought too....just a chevy-no big loss.

I assure you they were properly attached.


The problem was they were "emergency chains" that only cover part of the tire and strap through the hole in the rim via a heavy fabric strap like those found on tow straps. a great idea in theory but I didn't pay attention to how thin the rims on that truck were. The metal on the wheel actually cut through the strap. I'll post a pic of the chain type when I get home.
