87 bronco 2 2.9 fuel injected ....k so long story short the fuel pump does not cycle unless you are engaging the starter. it seems like something is stopping it from doing its 2-3 sec fuel pump in the on position its like the truck will run if you hold the starter on we have swapped out the fuel pump relay and bypassed the inerita switch with no success. any ideas ?

Pull one relay and try to start and see what happens. Then the other.

Don't know if it would matter, but check all the wires at the starter solenoid on the fender.

yeah we have a new solonoid in there and the pumps will not cycle when in the on position only when you try to start the truck .. then when you let off the ignition the truck just dies.. its getting fuel pressure to the rail and we can hear both pumps running but only when engaging the starter. its like the pumps arent working when you release the ignition

When you are starting it send a signal to the solenoid, could be a bad or wrong connection there.
OR something in the switch itself.
Had a similar issue on an Escort wagon. Turned out to be a bad wire from the relay to the ignition switch.

I hate wiring/electrical problems. Usually easy to fix WHEN you figure out which wire is bad.
