Hey guys...

planning a EFI 5.0 swap into my BII, and trying to get my ducks in a row for what all parts I need, and I came across something I dont know the answer to.

I'm not real familiar with auto transmissions, even less so those that are controlled electronically.

I need to know, does the engine computer know the difference between an AODE and an E40D, or a 4R70W? As in, if I get an engine and computer from a 5.0 Mustang w/ AODE, would I be able to use that computer with an E4OD or 4R70W, along with any other permutations of that combination? Can a trans from an OBDII truck be controlled by an EEC-IV OBDI computer?

I just want to make sure I don't end up with the wrong harness/computer if I don't end up getting the motor and trans from the same donor.

If I don't go electronic, I might just get a 5.0 that matched up to a manual transmission and put a hydraulic AOD behind it, with a 4R70W gearset.

The AODE and E4OD have different connectors and electronics in the trans so they need to have the correct EEC processor and wiring harness.

ok, good to know.

I wish they had made an OD version of the C6 before they went electronic. I'm more and more leaning toward using a manual trans computer with a hydraulic AOD, w/ 4R70W gearset. I want to use a Mustang engine so I'm already starting with good heads and the right oil pan (not to mention the horsepower) and it never came with an E4OD it looks like I'll be using a manual computer w/ AOD or an auto computer w/ AODE.

I thought I had a 5.0 truck motor w/ E4OD lined up for cheap the other day, but the guy sold it before I got to it.

Oh well, a stock 5.0 pushing 32's and 3.73 rear through commuting and mild trails shouldn't be too much for a slightly ugpraded AODE I wouldn't think.
