i bought a decent air compressor recently. from my neighbor across the street

I learned after owning a crappy chinese welder and upgrading to a well made american hobart. i have made it a rule that tools i will use alot be well made and not chinese crap.

i dont care if it is new or not because i can generally tell if it was well cared for or not.
i guess what i want to know is in pneumatic tools what are US or Canadian companies i should look for if i want American air tools. weather there are still some made here or old stuff i plan on buying it

and if used is the only way to get american what symptoms shows a warn-out airgun

I heard that Craftsman is decent and Snap-On (blue-point) is good (expensive though). If you get air tools, make sure you oil it often with air tool oil.

Aircat is a good middle road between Snappy quality and Craftsman price.

ingersol rand is a good company, matco snap on craftsman mac etc all buy from them, guy i work with got a 1/2" impact from craftsman could barely break a lug on a F450 i got a rebuilt IR from another guy at work, at first that thing was scary lol but if you can find a way t get some cornwell tools, i like them cuz theyre not nearly as pricey as matco or crapon and have BAWLS too! i bought a 3/8 air rachet (cornwell) that thing will whip your hand around if your not paying attention lol or pinch it pretty good. but thats just my opinion. also if your looking for a powerful air rachet get one that has a trigger not a paddle,

as for wear on an airgun, if it has diffrent torque settings go threw them see if dial is loose and switching from forward to reverse is loose, but nothing beats just testing it out put a bolt in a vice hamer down a nut with a known good gun, see if you can get itoff with yours.

rant over... i like tools:D

Craftsman stuff is being made in china now. Not all of it of coarse, but I know some impacts and air ratchets are being made there.

I have a well-used craftsman cut-off wheel from the mid 90s, with all the water my air compressor puts out it still works pretty damn good (though makes a little bearing noise). I've also started a decent collection of cornwell tools, they are always having decent deals, so I like them, and they work pretty good for what I use them for. I got a 1/2" impact, a 1/4" air ratchet, a mini grease gun, and a tool bag all for just a little over the normal price of a 1/2" impact, which is still less than a Snap-on 1/2" impact. They are always having deals like that too. So if you have access, I would suggest Cornwell.
