Maybe a supercharger is a little much. Maybe a sports truck does not need to beat out a Mustang or a Corvette. Maybe just a small V8 or even a beefed up 6 would have sold to that theoretical "average driver."
A plain old 5.0 has more hp than the old Lightning. Let alone a Ecoboost.

My crew cab longbed 4x4 2016 weighs the same as a old Lightning too, 2wd shortbed standard cab would lighter yet.

Hello all,
I currently own the first run 1990 454ss Chevy and friend at work got the ford version lightning. We race often, let me tell you Chevy just put a truck wrecker engine in this truck. Very small port heads. Had a turbo 400 trans w/lockup. In second gear full throttle the engine could not blow up due to ports just could not support air flow to reach higher rpm. I could not blow this thing up!! Was very good torque but lost above 3000
2 barrel throttle body's just sad such low air flow also.
I just replace heads n cam n intake to dual plain and for real a old quadrajet and this seemed to wake it up to my old days of my old square panel truck that had 454 2500 with Granny 4 speed lol
I hated my 1990 454ss for being such a a piglet so under powered.

But you do know the first true "Sport" truck was the Chevrolet 454SS. Followed by the Ford Lightnings (93 - 96) and (99 - 04). Then that V-10 contraption that Dodge built.
You mean this V-10 contraption?
