A/C pressure too high

Alright my A/C went out yesterday, and the compressor clicks on for a second and then clicks off for about 5-10. Like most people I just thought it needed more refrigerant, but when I put my recharge can up to the low pressure port (with a cheap gauge, mind you) it showed 150-130 PSI.

When I would turn the compressor in it would drop a little and then skyrocket back up. I know that those cheap can-mounted gauges are pieces of shit, but 150 PSI i kind of scaring me. I'm thinking something is clogged or there's something wrong with a switch.

check the cooling fan. insufficient cooling will cause high pressures. especially if the a/c works while the vehicle is moving 25mph+

You need the A/C turned on & engine running to properly measure the pressures in it.

To me it sounds like it's developed a leak (comp clicking on, then back off right away). You need to find and fix that leak before you start dumping more freon into it, possibly damaging the compressor because the amount of freon/lubricant is no longer correct (many of those DIY cans also have sealers and other gunk in them that will gum your system all up in the long run).

How may times have you recharged it? Hopefully you purged the lines before you hooked up the hose. Could have some non-condensibles in the system. I would try recovering and pulling a good vacuum down to 500 microns to make sure system is dry and leak free. Then try recharging.
