98 4.0 acting up

All of a sudden the motor starts acting like its running out of fuel once in gear idles fine will act up for awhile then drive fine for awhile

Has the fuel filter been changed recently? Autozone will pull codes for free. The light doesn't have to be on.

On his truck, if the light isn't on, there isn't a code there to be read.

Filter changed about two weeks ago no light thinking it must be electrical because I noticed the volt and oil pressure gauges are acting funny

Check the battery ground to body and engine to body ground strap on the back side of the head(drivers side usually).
loosen clean retighten.

Bad or intermittent grounds cause a world of unusual issues.
Gauges with odd readings are a sign of a bad ground.

It was the ground cable from battery to frame
