Hi all,
just did the brakes on my 84 yesterday, didnt drive it, today the light came on shortly after starting it.. do they just need re-bleed? I did replace rear cylinders, garvity and prushered bleed them very little to no air came out.. just used a C clamp on Disc. one side I did not open bleeder just pushed fluid backward, I did not bleed the fronts, no air got pulled back in should I ??, did that break the master?? or screw up the slider valve causing the light..
I have done many brakes jobs on my cars over the years.. never had a light before?
Thanks for any help...
take care

The way the brake light comes on is the little sensor on the master cylender. And it comes on if the fluid is low or gone. So I think you have a brake some place and the fluid dripped out over night. Check at the wheel cylinders and work your way to the rear pumpkin for leeks. And from the rear axle to the fire was. Wile puting all of the force one the lines wile bleeding. You could have burst your rear line. Around gas tank area

You can also try balancing the switch in th block under the mastercylinder I can never remember the name. Put some rags under the master cylinder to catch any oil and with a proper hydraulic fitting wrench have someone press down on the brakes and look at the light. There are two lines coming out of the master cyl carefully crack one at a time and when the light goes out tighten the fitting. Pump the brakes and see if it stays out. Allways tighten the fitting before the pedal hits the floor or before you let off on the brake pedal. The switch is connected to a piston that tells you if either the front or rear circuit loses pressure. It usually only needs a little fluid bled to center the piston. Use the right wrenches so you dont F up the fittings.

Since when did Rangers have a light that did anything other than tell you the parking brake is still on? I've never seen that on any that I looked at.

Hi All.. There is no wires comming from the master, no leaks the fluid is full. Ive been working on cars/trucks for over 40 years... I don't think it had a light for the park brake, I did think of that and worked the park brake a couple of times.. I well look for a switch tho, hope its that simple.... but I'm sure the problem is with that slider valve in the brake safety system ... I think I just need to recenter that. If I pump the brakes the light does start to flicker but goes back to being on . the brakes feel fine not squishy or pulling funny. just the light on..
One person told me to crack a bleeder and see if the valve well recenter its self, might try that since pumping them makes the light flicker. Might just rebleed them all.
Thanks all for your replies
