Sorry if this isnt the right forum, i thought it would fit in here.I did search and i couldnt figure this out, will a 91' 4x4 explorer engine crossmember bolt to a 91' 2x4 ranger frame to convert it to 4x4?

I have the ranger and the explorer and need to know so i can get my project started!

Thanks -Nick-

u would need the engine cross memeber, all associated bracketry, probably the trans and the t-case, and the front axle assembly.

but yes, the engine cross member will work...

yes! Ok ill elaborate, ive got a complete 91 ex with a brand new motor and a4ld that i got for the grand total of $100, the d35 and 8.8 are going in as well and the ranger is a 91 ex-cab that had been in a front end collision (nothing but frame in front of the cab) that had a 3.0 and a 5spd i got it for $200. I also have a 2.9 m5od that im going to rebuild and drop in. Best of all this whole project will have only cost about $700 when its done. Heres the sploder

I dont have any pics of the ranger right now, sorry.

id run the 4.0 instead of the 2.9 since u already have it, and its a pretty straight forward swap, if im not mistaken using a auto computer with a manual in those years doesnt case any real issues, atleast not in the swaps ive done them in, but u could always find the manual computer from a junkyard and ud be ready to rock and or roll

oh, no i dont own a 2.9, i was just sayin i had a m5od from a 2.9 equipped b2, it has a lower first gear from what ive heard. Yep 4.o is the way to go, i love the pushrod 4.0 its a great reliable motor, i have a 98 ex sport i drive every day that has the pushrod 4.0 in it with the 5 speed auto.
