Sorry if this isn't in the right section but will a 4.0 starter bolt directly up to a 2.9? Has the stock flywheel/clutch but my starter is going and thought I would upgrade. Thanks

Yes. If you are retaining the stock 2.9 flywheel you will need a starter from a 4.0 automatic, regardless of which transmission you actually have. The flywheel for a 4.0 stick was bigger than the 2.9, but the two engines used the same flex plate for an auto, which was the same size as the 2.9 flywheel.

Some minor alterations to the wiring are required as well. The easiest way I found to do it is to take the existing starter cable, hook it to the small post on the 4.0 starter, and then run a new battery cable from the battery+ to the starter's large post.
