ok so i know i cannot really trust the stock guage becuase there are no number.
i recently had a head job on my 4.0 sohc, along with new timing chains.
i went through a 3 month ordeal with the mechanic about a miss after he worked on the engine, he blamed it on me nad i blamed it on him, well come to find out it was his fault. But now ive noticed that after running the truck for a few mile it "loses" oil pressure at idle.
i bought a mech guage to hook up to try and see what it drops to, but have not gotten around to it, i also replaced the sender unit twice. i know it seems like he really messed something up, which im not doubtful of, but after what i already went through with him im not taking the truck back. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this?

also truck seems to run very rough and idle can dip from time to time.

I'd throw that mechanical gauge in it and see what's its really doing.

Sent from, wait how did this get here?

okay so lets say i put the guage in and the oil pressure drops but not all the way to 0, lets say 3 - 4 psi, less than (8) is that safe to operate the motor with? What is a safe operating pressure?

the average safe psi at idle for most engines is around 6-8 . if your below 6 at idle you really should have it checked out . although probably not by the last mechanic....
