My son has a 2000 ranger 3.0. It was getting water in the oil so we pulled the heads. Didn't see a problem so we took off the timing cover. The water pump impeller was worn out and cut a hole in the timing cover. So we got it all put pack together and now it won't run. It starts sometimes but sounds like a few plug wires are off. We've double and triple checked the wires and they are right. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is it possible that you got the distributor 180° out of phase with the compression stroke? If so, it would be sparking at the wrong time, even though your timing appears correct.

It doesn't have a distributor it's a coil pack.

But it has a cam position sensor on the modified oil pump shaft assy.
(where the dist use to go)

Was that removed and not replaced correctly?

The only thing in that area I can see is The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP). Lying under the truck should be on the passenger side at the front lower portion of engine. A clip on wire at the crankshaft area.

Double check the coil pack. My 2008 has it reversed mounted .

We cleaned the crank censor and it runs a little better now. It'll idle but very rough. Give it gas and it wants to cut off.

Also did a compression check. Highest was 150 and the lowest was 120.
