im putting a 2.9 back together with the original bearings and im having issues with deck height...my pistons are out of the whole .022" at tdc.

anyone have any ideas? what should factory deck height be with this block?
btw i know nothign about this motor and dont have the original head gaskets so im not sure if its been decked or not..

where should the pistons be sitting?

Hmmm,
I recently rebuilt my 2.9 and I don't recall the pistons "sticking out". The head gaskerts are kinda think and .022 isn't much so I'm thinking your good. I know the ring gap wear lip is only about .500 from the deck. Also if the deck shows the normal signs of mating to a gasket I doubt very much that the block had been decked. If it's clean, well then..... Also,
when you say original bearings, did you literally mean original as in what you took out or original size replacements? If you used the old bearings the wear might allow some movement but certainly not .022. that you would notice when turning the crank shaft....

And if you are putting it back together with bearings that you took out, don't.

For the work involved and the cost of bearings, not worth it.

8.858 is the height measured from the crank centerline to the deck. let me know if you need any other specs.

I know this is an old thread but the question, I think, was not answered. I think he wanted to know what the Piston to Deck Height is on a 2.9L, not the deck height. The reason I'm answering this is that I need the answer as well due to a rebuild.

Again sry for the old thread.
