i found a mustang (84) with a blown 2.3 and a 5 speed. i was wondering if the 2.3 ranger motor would fit, cuz if so i might have a cheap DD to keep the miles of the ranger:3gears:

yep might be oil pan issues or the head might be different due to one having 8 plugs and the other having 4.

Keep in mind that your ranger is dual plug DIS (at least most 90's were, I hear about some '89s that weren't) and the mustang will be single plub with a distributor. So you'll have to deal with that swap. Also I think the 84 mustang 2.3's were carbed (someone please correct if I'm wrong), so that's a whole other issue to figure out.

If it's just a blown headgasket on the stang I'd just fix that. If it's a cracked head, your looking at quite a bit of work to put a DP ranger head on it because you'd have to convert to fuel injection to run the dual plug head.
