I have a 1999 Ranger 4x4 with a 3.0 and the Mazda M50D-R1 behind it and am having an issue. When I first start driving after the trucks been sitting overnight it shifts fine but after driving about 10 miles or so it it wants to grind going into 2nd gear. If i shift it slow I can get it to engage with a little effort. I changed to fluid out last week and the clutch and slave cylinder were changed about 5000 miles ago. It just started doing this recently. I am wondering if a syncro going out would cause this problem and is there anything I can do other than pulling it and replacing parts. Thanks in advance for any help.

Mike

That is exactly what a syncro will do. The #2 syncro wears out the fastest too because you move through 2nd gear the most. You can try to double clutch it, that is usually pretty effective. It won't actually fix anything, but it will get you a good bit more life outta your trans before any parts need to be replaced to continue operation.

What fluid did you put in it, just curious.
