So a mechanic friend of mine has been helping get a very promising 1999 Ford ranger 3.0 V6 up and running, and we are replacing the crankshaft and main bearings this upcoming weekend. However, he mentioned a "timing chain gasket" as a part we may need to order, as apparently some of them are not reusable... Since this will be the first time I have ever torn into a 4 stroke motor of any type, I'm not real familiar with them, but I would guess it's the gasket for the timing cover?

The truck is about 3 hours away, so I will start it this coming weekend, but if I can round up the parts I need that would save time. Does anyone know if the timing chain gasket are reusable? Not that big of deal, but since I started all of this work back in MAY, I am tired of things delaying the progress, so I want to have all parts accounted for beforehand... Thanks for all help!

most of the parts stores i frequent sell gasket kits for the various jobs you wish to do. Sometimes they save money over buying a complete set, but sometimes it is nice to have an extra gasket or two settin around

for example,

head sets: heat gaskets, valve cover gaskets, intake gaskets, water neck
timing sets: timing cover gasket, water neck, front crank seal
crank sets: {timing set} + oil pan and rear crank seal

prices will vary, but usually a SET (with maybe extra gaskets in it) is cheaper than the individual gaskets bought separately together

Does that last sentence make sense????? LOL

Yup it all made sense, thanks for the help guys. Got all the parts together and the truck is up and running! With a recharged AC and a replacement E brake cable, the truck will be good to go!

Since I am so happy to have gotten it running, I figured I would whore some pictures now that it isn't on jackstand's in the garage anymore!

(obviously, it's the one on the right, and my bronco is in the back)
