Xtra cab will have a 20gal tank, 19.5gal, it can be listed as either
(regular cab had 17gal, 16.5gal)

If its plastic you may not find one and will have to repair what you have if possible
The plastic tanks are made by "Plastic Welding" the two halves of the tank together, upper and lower halves

So they can be repaired/patched the same way, yes its a thing a DIYer can do
Google: Plastic welding gas tank

Late 1980's was when most car makers went from steel to plastic

This is a good site to look for LOCAL used parts, use YOUR Zipcode
It will give you the option of what size tank after you hit the SEARCH button

In some areas/States used gas tanks can't be sold, same as used Cat Converters, I get the Cat converters but not used gas tanks :) that makes no sense to me

Toonces drives a Ranger . . . . just not very well.
Previous owners banged it on a Rick and dented the bottom
What did Rick do to deserve that? Was he one of the Ford design engineers?

Junkyard tank will be your best bet if you want a plastic one. Pretty safe bet that a new metal one from '86 (I think that was the first year of super cabs?) to '88 would work but you will need the straps with it. Probably the sending unit too. Engine size is irrelevant, the wheelbase is the important part as the tanks were different lengths. 125" wheelbase is what you have.

You might be able to use one from a newer super cab truck too, 93/94 would be fairly safe. Not sure on 95 and up, there is a good chance that they would fit but some leg work to confirm that would be required on your end.
