The drivers door on our 1990 ranger 4x4 with 2.9L is sagging so bad it won't latch. Is there a good fix for this other than replacing the whole hinge assembly?

That is an easy fix. Take the center pin out with an airhammer or a hammer and chisel if it is still a factory pin and bushing. Get a pin and bushing from the parts store and reinstall. The hinge itself will come off the door. Take a black marker and mark it before you take it off. Put it back together with the new bushings and pin, then line up the hinge and put the 2 bolts back in.

Napa has door pin kits too, I had to get some for my 96 Mustang and they were like $5 a side.

I see that. After i looked it up on rockauto i went to my sisters napa prolink account and found the pin with bushing and another one with a pin and two brass bushing and and eclip. Now i just need to go look close at the problem hinge to see which kit is right.

Door pins can definitely cause the sag and there is an easy way to check if it's the hinge or a rotting A pillar...open the door all the way and get someone to lift up on it from the far end of the door...if the door rocks up and down abd the hinge doesn't move...it's the pin.

I had my A pillar rot out near the bottom hinge and the whole hinge area was kinda mushy...you can also see rust, but not always how it affects the door.

Hope it's not rust...

Top hinge above.

Bottom hinge.

All if the play is in the holes were the pins go through two hinge halves. Both top and bottom hinges are sloppy like this. Body and door are solid. Bottom pin is shorter i notice.

Man, I bought a roller (the white thingy) for my driver side door. I got a punch and a BFH, pounded on the pin for a while and gave up.

Just to be clear

One both hinges all of the slop is where I have the red circles in this picture.

Does this one work for both the long pin on top hinge and the short pin on the bottom hinge?

What is this one for?

Not sure what that last pic was...it looks familiar but can't place it...

The play then is in the bushings...the pin itself doesn't usually wear much unless the bushings are pooched and the pin becomes the contact point...shouldn't be too hard to correct it though...but I think the pins are scored in two different places so you can use them in top and bottom...IIRC...then push the horseshoe clip on and slam the door a few times....lol
