I have a 1988 2.0 Ranger and I have all the stuff to put a Holley 5200 on it with the stock 2bbl intake. My timing is set for the stock 2.0 YFA 1bbl which I am running now with an adapter on the 2bbl intake. It works well. I saw in this thread:

On the 4th post by briansz, toward the bottom he says "Need to set timing as well". Will I need to adjust the timing? This engine has 75K original miles and runs awesome. Thanks

You don't really need to change the timing, but you can possibly get more power, and or gas mileage if you try different ignition timing (you can always set it back to where it was).

You can also use an adjustable cam cogged wheel to vary you cam timing
