Hey I have several questions about this pickup I might buy. I would appreciate any help.

1. What would an 86 with the inline 300 have, carburator or fuel injection?

2. it is a standard. Would a 302 or 351 bolt up to the inline 300 manual tranny?

thanks in advance

no, it IS a standard, it was a statement, not a question. The question was about 302 or 351 swap.

I am 99% sure that 86 would be carbed. Even with the carb it shouldn't be too bad performance wise. There are just a shitload of vacuum hoses and diagnosing problems can be difficult because of this.

I am fairly certain that the only EFI equipped trucks from the 80-86 generation were 302's. The 351 had EFI in '87, and the 300-6 got EFI somewhere after '87.

My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
The 300 was fuel injected in 87.

Carbed ones run just as good as EFI's.

Dustin

Yeah, I actually Want a carbed one, makes it that much easier to swap a big block. Anyone know what the wiring is like on the 80's fords with carbs? Pretty simple or no?

85 was the first year for a EFI on the 302. And it was only an option. 86 was when they switched over to EFI completely.

88 was the first year for EFI on the 351.

Good to know. The 87-92's around here are mostly crumbling hulks and I never liked that body style...

The EFI 302 in '85 must be fairly rare. I've only seen one or two. Now in the '86s they seem to be pretty common, but for some reason it's fairly hard to find engine parts for them.

I've only found one local 85 with a EFI 302 in it, and it was at the junk yard.

And I agree on the 87-91 (hehehe, sorry to keep correcting you, lol!) body style. Never did like the corner lights, nor the grille.

However, the next gen (9th gen, I believe....) is my favorite!

Also, anyone know what a 351 'modified' is? The early 80's ones had them versus windsors.

The 351M is a de-stroked 400. Only differences between it and the Windsor are that has a dry intake manifold and that the t-stat is on the block.

It takes a ton of work for you to switch parts with a Windsor vs. a Modified or Cleveland.

Lol, ask away on stuff about the F series if you want. My dad is a die hard Ford man, and has ALWAYS had a Ford Full Size, so I've gotten to know my way around them :)

His current is an 86 with a 351 Windsor. No mods, as it's just the "Put shit in the back of and haul around" truck. However, it can haul a Cord of firewood on it's own with barely any type of effort. And it sure as hell moves.

Huh, I always thought that the 351W was essentially a 302 block with a few differences. Probably just my mind going again

I had an '85 F150 for a while with a 351W...bought it off the rez for a couple hundred. It was one bitchin truck, but would only make left turns. Never did figure out what was wrong. It was supposed to be a parts truck but I decided to scrap it the last time I moved.
