Ive been googleing this all day and im so confused.
I read that in some years it sends power and without it u get no4wd. Another person said it powers the clutch up for shift on the fly. Is it possible to do without it and just complete stop before i goto 4wd?

If it came out of a '00 explorer v6... It's a 44-05.

I remember reading somewhere that the brown wire is for powering up the clutch for shift on the fly. You should be able to do without it adjust stop before you put it into 4x4.

Ok i took back the 00 explorer tcase. Couldnt figure out if it wud work. Found a local yard with 3 tcases identical to mine. He wants 300 and mu old tcase. Im so tired of this problem that im willing to spend that to get it done right.

Okay one question: what is in front of my front driveshaft? A cv joint?

When i pulled the explorers tcase that front dshaft piece pushed in but had alot of pressure and popped right bak out as soon as i let go?

I pulled my tcase an hour ago and my front piece pushed in and stayed. Its like its crapped out.

Is that okay to do that? And if i have to replace it, can i just replace that cv end or have to replace whole front d shaft?

1354E= $300. That guy is smoking some serious shit. Let him keep it. Keep looking!
Front driveshaft has a double cardan joint, which is 2 u joints on the transfer case end & then a single at the front differential. Have fun replacing those if they're bad, MAKE SURE it goes back together exactly as it is for the double joint! TAKE PICTURES BEFORE. It also has a slip yoke in the shaft, should be able to push it in or pull it out with some resistance. It's a splined inner/outer kind of thing, that should have a grease fitting. in/out movement is fine, no play as in up and down. It splines together.

Its a '98... he has a CV joint at the T-case and a single U-joint at the front diff. '97 was the last year for the double cardan front driveshaft.

$300 for a 1354e...!!!

After I swapped mine to manual, it sat around for 6 months on this forum and Craigslist, then went to the scrap yard.

I paid that much(in trade) for my manual case and shifter.

Yea well i wish i couldve gotten it cheaper. Oh i live in tennessee near memphis. Picked up my new beauty today. Tag says 50k miles, doesnt look like its seen mud. No grease jus roadtar, and very mildly dark fluid. I know price was redonkulous but im jus happy to finally get this baby back on the road again.

Seeing as how ive taken 2 tcases out in the last week, i shouldnt have any problems installing hah. Thx for the help guys. This site is a savior
