I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
That has to be the coolest rock ever.
Yeah, until it eats your boat and the captain. It’s happened before… Steven Spielberg even caught it on film.

You're gonna need a bigger boat...

You bought a Jeep?
Actually did run into a jeep club from Omaha and ran with them in the morning, they invited us back to camp for lunch, nice people.

The best part of a creepy crawl... freaking out the scarers by ripping lights down with your TRS flag...

Lighting was kind of bad for gopros but you can kinda get the idea. We could see better in real life and there was more to see in real life. It was the kid friendly one, we rode with the rear window up so our 3 year old would sleep that night though. Not sure he would really get much out of people jumping out of the dark and going "boo!" quite yet. They had an adult one later which we skipped.

Sadly I did not get my camera cards cleaned after Badlands like I thought I did. Also the app for my good gopro was on the fritz so I didn't know it cut out right in the middle of the most awesome thing I did and missed Amanda's big hillclimb. We got both on cellphone though... we didn't get out and record everything though.

Still kinda disappointed :annoyed:

Sounds like you had some good family time as well as a good crawlin' time, so there's that to be thankful for.
Besides, the memories in your heads are the best records you could have ;0)

As we pull down into a dry Rocky creek bed:

"daddy, do you need help?"

As we climb out of creek bed letting skidplates do their thing:

"don't hurt the Bronco daddy!"

Every time we spin out:

"We're stuck!"

Anyway, lets back this thing up and start it over without the updates now that I have had time to get all the pictures in one place and sorted and whatnot.

We left on Friday the 14th which is actually our 5th wedding anniversary. I had learned of the park thru work (a vender saw the lego jeep on my desk and gave me a card for the place) After badlands she was wanting to do more offroading and did some googling on the way home and found this place was doing a Halloween thing on our weekend. Cool.

So we packed up and headed south after work Thursday night.

Crashed at a Ramada for the night on the north end of KC. They only had one king bed left, a suite. So I treated my sweetie with a suite. :icon_thumby:

The little 20" tv was a quarter mile away from the bed otherwise it was nice and served its purpose.

We had a bit of time to kill so we showed little guy some critters at Cabalas and drooled over camping gear.

Watching the "happy fish" (trout) swim around in their pool. He had a hoot.

And we pointed it south again.

Cellphone pics thru a car window don't do it justice, it really was a neat, nice drive down there.

Made it there. It is kinda big but I wonder if this used to be a schoolhouse, the windows are similar to the old country schools back home.

While setting up camp little guy was practicing the finer arts of moderating a website...

Two picnic shelters, a nice new playground, bathrooms and the event pavilion all nice and close to the campground.

Four good measure knowing it was going to get down into the 40's and after experimenting sleeping in my grandparent's tipi a couple weeks ago I did add another blanket on top the air mattress for insulation. Worked great.

He loved the playground, the purple tent in the background is ours.

Its been a day or two since I have played COD...

Super nice maps. Not perfect but close to it. Pretty much every trail is named and marked at intersections so you can keep track of where you are pretty easily.

Camp is set.

Saturday's itinerary.

Had some free time so we went back to Fort Scott to check out the old pre-civil war US Army fort.

Officer's quarters:

Found a lake on the way back (it was Cedar Lake or something like that)

Noticed the water was like 3' below the bottom of the boat ramp.

Also noticed a homemade fire ring with remains of a fire, a half starved dog running loose with no collar and missfed .223 cartridge (big dent in the side of the case like it jammed)... kinda got the heebie jeebies so we cut out.

Time for potato soup! Made from leftover bacon from the pizzas at the roundup no less!

With no fire to play with we retired fairly early that night, and I think I might do the same tonight now.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I see, from the sign, that Kansas Rocks = Dayton Cemetary. Nice touch.

Looks like a great trip. That fort looks amazing, too. Really well cared for.

There is a old cemetery on the way into the park. Not sure who is piggybacking off of who since it is donated.

They have a ton of money/time in the fort, it was pretty rough when they got it in the 60's.
