hey guys, a friend of mine has a 02 explorer 4x4 with tow package that has 373 gears in rear ends. apparently his left rear wheel bearing went out and it ruined the spindle and axle, etc. he found a complete rear end out of another 02 explorer that has 355 gears, question is could he use the axle and spindle from the 355 rear end to repair the 373 rear end? the only thing that should be different is the ring and pinion right? any help would be appreciated as this is his only vehicle. thank you.:hottubfun:

I don't see any reason why not. Everything other than the gears I think would be the same.

He won't need the whole rearend. The explorer is an IRS set up. So he will only need the things that are destroyed.

02 explorer rear end

brett, thanks for the info, but we wasn't going to exchange the whole rear end, only what is needed. but we were wondering if the axle will work? (same spline and length and so on, also would the rear spindle be the same? he has to purchase the complete rear end (rotor to rotor) to get the parts he needs. that's the only way the guy will sell it. thanks, stingray
