Did the 31-spline 8.8 with the Torsen LSD ever end up in a non-Fx4 truck?
I've got an 02 Ranger..
When I got the truck about two years ago, she had the yellow and blue factory bilstein shocks, but no Fx4 badges or stickers, and a 4L10 on the diff tag, which led me to believe it had the "XLT Off-Road" package.
I changed my rear diff oil recently, and ran into a few surprises. My axle tubes are definitely the 3.25" variety, with the neck-down towards the drums. So this means I've a 31-spline axle. When I cracked the diff cover, I found not a standard ford LSD carrier with the s-shaped spring, like I was expecting, but a Torsen!
Not that I'm complaining, I mostly just want to know...
It was my understanding that this axle never went with this truck?
Was the Torsen 8.8 an option that could be added? Why would somebody do that? Could it be a mistake from the factory?
I suppose somebody could have swapped in a newer axle from an Fx4 truck, but I don't have any history from any previous owners.
Anybody any ideas?
