yodaman1151's 87 supercab STX

We go the last week in august during archery season and camp at bull prairie then ride to the day use area. 4 hours is a long drive though

yea its like 2 hours from where i live, do you take the ranger up there?

No i've only had it for a couple months but we take the Dakota cuz it has more power and gets better mileage towing the quads up the grades

So I went up in the snow and learned it's been too long since I've driven in deep snow and got excited and got stuck. All the mud lately has "hammer down" stuck in my head. I blew the front end up, gears are fine but all my pivots clunk, my ball joints are shot, diff is full of water and puking oil all over I'm sick of the ttb. But I did see a bronco II on jeep axles that was unstoppable in 5' of snow... So I've now got a massive hard on for a Dana 30 swap, yes the d44 is stronger and a better choice but I don wheel enough to justify spending the extra money. And the d30 practically bolts in... So I'm saving up and looking for my straight axle.

I've run my D35 through a lot more than 5" of snow and did just fine. If you abuse your equipment, you can break anything.

its not that i believe it will withstand more, but more that my TTB needs some love and instead of wasting resources i'm just gonna put my money towards my SAS. I'm gonna put new pivot bushings and a couple ball joints on the passenger side cuz i already bought them. since i'm pulling axles to do the ball joints i'm welding the front. i'm probably gonna have to pitch money at a new starter too cuz its taking a crap again. i'll keep you guys posted.

pics of dana 30 swaps would be much appreciated... specifically the radius arms and mounting, maybe some flex pics (for those late nights :] )

i'm also looking for someone in the area with a hot knife to help me cut my thornbirds...

so this week i'm picking up a dana 30... its said to have 3.08 gears in it and im not sure what its out of but i want to know if a standard cut ring and pinion will work fine in a housing that has the reverse cut R&P??? or vise versa?? also does anyone know a good place to buy gears and a manual hub conversion?

my other question i have is can i go to the junk yard and get a ring and pinion?? i know, i know its a bad idea cuz they are used gears... but if i get an install kit and redo the bearings whats the difference of just using the gears already in the axle or someone elses used gears?

i would get new ring and pinion, you dont know how well they were taken care of. they might look good, but blow up withing a couple thousand miles. i would get new ones. hope that helps

I'm thinking temporary cuz I'm gonna do the 8.8 swap too and plan on throwing gears and a locker at it
