xBLAKEx's 1988 Supercab Build

Dannggg!:icon_surprised: Your truck is set up! What's your set up in the front back? Did you see a difference with moving them before you got new leafs?

I also agree that there is a lot of up travel that i wont use, that's why i thought it wasn't the shocks?

I noticed in the pictures that my shackle is almost vertical, no more drop?

I see a lot of guys around where i live moving their shocks to mount on top of the axle at a 45degree angle to a new cross member up top. They say there's less resistance between the shocks, so they work together. Where the set up on rangers and some 4 runners, the shocks are working against each other.

I was thinking of doing something like this when i swapped in an 8.8.

At that angle, the shock is going to be only 75% affective. Mounted vertical, they are 100% affective. I would just get a longer shock if it's travel you're after.

Ford- Wow That's how grandma likes it! I wish I had the $ I'd get that body style but a extra cab and put the axels I've got under it then swap in a 5.0! I like those body styles just as much as my 1st gen. You did a fine job!

I ran my shocks thatta way (when it was 1/2 stuff). Worked just fine.
But dont listen to me, i dont know anything about anything. Rowdy Fitz told me so.

Scooter you really need to quit being rude its pretty annoying.

Yeah I'm sure that's true.. I don't think there's a way i could mount them vertically though. I think the stock shock locations were great for the trucks original purpose, but now it's doing more off road. So I think the there is a better set up for the shocks. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but it's not the original set up. I've seen that set up i posted on so many trucks, and has been recommended to me a could times when people look at my set up. SO there has to be some good reason behind that, you know?

I think I'm going to do that set up, do you think i could use the shocks I have now?

And I know you guys have a lot of personal experience with wheeling, building trucks and what not. And when someone has a very strong different opinion on something it usually can't be changed. So there's no point on arguing on who is right or wrong, smart or dumb. If you know your right then that's good, don't listen to Rowdy Fitz and let it go.

You both have helped me a lot, thanks.

Yes you could. The farther / \ you point them you efectivily(sp) make them longer. But remember it also increases body roll.

No problem man. I dont say anything i dont KNOW to be true. If i dont know, ill tell you " i dont know".
Im sure he knows alot. But to blame your lack of rear axle travel on the front TTB is asinine. Report/ban me lol

Good luck with your build, if i can help you, lemme know, i like to share and gain knowledge.

I have been told that the ideal angle for the shocks is a 45, but not sure how you decided where to burn in the mounts? Just have the truck sit on the leafs and measure the distance between the top of the axle to where i would have the top mount, then just measure that distance over on the axle, then there it is?

I'm not going to ban or report anyone, I believe most people are all here to share and gain knowledge, and not drama ha.

Anyways i was at my local yard to get a support bracket for my power steering pump when i ran into this! Hahah I laugh every time i see the picture.

Here is what mine looked like. I just got them even, and welded them in. Lol
I have no idea what angle they were at. The more vertical they are, the more/better dampining they provide. But i wasnt looking for ride quality, i needed travel/articulation.
